We've been installing F-Wave REVIA polymer shingles across DFW for just over two years now. Here's the honest assessment from the field — what's working, what surprised us, and where they fit in the lineup.
The good
Class 4 impact rating without the asphalt-shingle weight. Color stability has held up beautifully through two North Texas summers. Granule loss is effectively zero because there are no granules — the color is throughout the polymer.
The surprising
Heat tolerance is better than we expected. We have installs on south-facing pitches in Plano that have run roof-deck temps north of 160°F with no curling, no warping, no oil canning. Insurance carriers have also been quicker to underwrite the discount than we predicted.
The trade-offs
- Material cost runs 40–60% above premium asphalt.
- Install technique is different — your crew needs F-Wave certification.
- The look isn't for everyone; it's cleaner and more uniform than traditional shingles.
Who it's right for
Homeowners staying in place 10+ years, anyone in a hail-prone ZIP, and customers who want the strongest impact rating without going to metal or tile. If you're flipping in two years, stick with premium asphalt.
